Karmacy, the South Asian hip hop crew that is made up of the four members Swap, Sammy Chand, Nimo and KB, have brilliantly incorporated intelligent thought into music. Imagine that huh? No fluffy hair-brained songs about dancing in the rain and chasing after a hot chick. This is serious stuff.

Whether you want to have some smooth sounds in your car or whether you need inspiration, this is the CD you want to pop into your stereo. The songs in The Movement can really be appreciated by any Desi who grew up in North America or the UK.

So you ask, what are they rapping about in their songs? The lyrics discuss the difficulties, irritation, stereotypes, frustrations, and the perceptions and realities that anyone whose had to live with two cultures has to deal with, and more. I don't think you necessarily have to be a Desi to appreciate what they are saying. We all deal with things like this in our lives and they've displayed it beautifully through strong rhythms and hot beats, using music to give a powerful message.

One of my absolute favorite tracks is the song "Neil." It talks about the dilemma of this poor kid who had to hang around a fobby pest when he was younger and how he avoided her because she was "not like everyone else" even though he admired her on the inside for being a strong person. I've been through that myself and could really relate to everything being said.

I also thought "Circus Act" was a cute number, where it implied that the singers of the song were the freaks in the freak show. I absolutely loved that analogy because it really struck home in regards to how we feel sometimes when we're trapped between two cultures.

The more I listen to this album the more I love it. This album is true Hip Hop, in its most natural form, as it was meant to be. The music and beats are not Desi, I don't want you people thinking this is a Desi album, it is a Hip Hop album to the core and it just so happens that Desis made it. That combination compliments the whole theme of the album perfectly, and I guess in that sense, it is a movement in itself.

Its just really refreshing to see that we are at the level where groups such as Karmacy are delivering on something that we all need to hear: positive and entertaining music! I can't wait until their next album!
