The BILZ new self-titled album brings a whole new dimension to the South Asian urban music scene. You can hear their hit track "2 Step Bhangra" blazing on the mainstream airwaves in North America, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritius, and the U.K. Their strong R&B and Pop vocals and intense Desi beats combine for a balanced fusion of West meets East.
The album starts off with "2 Step Bhangra." Using computer modified vocals and catchy club beats, this track gives a preview of what to expect from the BILZ in tone and style. The rustic, rough vocals on "Trucker Anthem" enhance the hard-core Punjabi character of the song. The acoustics in "Mere Khyalon Mein" are haunting. This soft romantic ballad features the heart-piercing vocals of Master-D. Perfect for a cold, rainy day away from your lover. The R&B track "Holla" gets you in an upbeat state of mind and out of your seat, hands up.
The final track "O Meri Rani" is a Reggaetone mash up of Hindi and Spanish lyrics. It illustrates the BILZ talent to appeal to many different markets and demonstrates how they have created a space for themselves, not only in the South Asian music industry but also in the mainstream. An added bonus for second and third generation Desis who aren't familiar with the language is the use of colloquial Punjabi lyrics, that make it easy for anyone to sing-a-long.
