I love getting a CD, listening to it, absorbing it and then reviewing it! I feel truly blessed to be able to give my input on something that thousands of people listen to. With that said, I hope this CD that I am about to tell you about is heard by millions! Digital Asia, a fitting name for a revolutionary sound. The CD is put together by Asif Ali and Martti Sewell, the two have released it on their label, Just Play Records.
In the press release, the CD is labeled as "an album of filthy desi breakbeat house," I would not venture too far from that categorization. This music is so good, it gets right between your ears and down into your being. Before you know it, you're moving with the music, or rather the music is guiding you. The backdrop of the CD is gritty and the epitomy of what my definition of electronica, house, drum n' bass and breakbeat is.
With a total of fourteen tracks, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. From the moment I put the CD in, it was a mind trip. Medina, which kicks it all off, is a very hypnotic and melodious track that sets the mood off right. You can't help but have your emotions played with while listening. The beautiful sound of the female voice and the whispering keep it at a level, which sustains your mood. Digital Asia, the song that bares the name of the album is next and it picks up the pace a little bit with its faster, drum n' bass vibe.
We then go into Asiatic, which is a really groovy sound, sort of takes me back to a 70's movie. Don't ask me why but its just the feeling I got listening to it. Very cool, very funky. You'll know what I mean when I say the song makes you feel a vibration, take a listen and let me know if I'm crazy. Desert Queen starts track four and is followed by Sajana, Velvet Sky, Quantum Knowledge, Euphoria, Threads Of Identity, Shalimar (Fire of Love), Parallel Love, Sahara Dance, Love Of a Prophet and Silk Assassin.
I could sit here all day and tell you in great detail about the effect each track had on my emotions and mood, but I think by the names of the tracks and the album cover alone you can judge the kind of music this is. Each track brings about its own variation on a dark, emotional train ride through the tunnel of your life. You feel different types of energy listening to each track, which speaks volumes since this kind of music touches a deeper part of your being. Rather than the typical dance till you drop type of energy that is created by other sounds, Digital Asia takes you beyond. I think you need to listen to this and only then will you appreciate and understand the fusion of sound and mind. Asif Ali and Martti Sewell take you where you need to be with Digital Asia.
