1207 - The Detroit Project

Its yo boy, Kidd Skilly!! Back in action. Really fast too. Here I am in January of 2005 and I thought I wouldn't hear anything new from this guy for a while now - but no. Luckily, Skilly has been working while everyone else hasn't. 1207 - The Detroit Project is an EP release, a teaser to the "1-King" album that will be dropping soon.

This EP includes three previously (and still!) popular tracks, "Nachna Part II," "Bitch Please" and "Nachna Part I." These all sound just as good as when they first hit the scene, and are a nice touch to this teaser. But the real attention getters, and there is a Parental Advisory label on this CD for them, are the tracks "Jump Back," "One Day" and "There He Go Again." The best way I can describe these new tracks is that these showcase Kidd Skilly's real "raw-and-in-your-face" side. "Jump Back" features a popular Detroit rapper and producer, Helluva. The start up beat on this alone lets you know that something really really crazy is about to happen. Right from the get go, into the middle of the song and to its final few seconds, the title is literal people. My initial reaction was to ask myself if this really was Kidd Skilly. I wasn't prepared for what I was listening to. In my opinion, this track surpassed anything previously done by this guy. The lyrics and the style of rapping them is really impressive and mark my words now people, we're gonna be seeing Kidd Skilly reach big levels of buzz-worthiness when this track gets out there.

From "Jump Back," we go into "One Day," which features another Detroit rapper, Nasty. This track's pace is a lot slower compared to the first and you really have to listen to the words being spoken here. Its one of those deep tracks - well thought-out and well produced. I especially enjoyed the chorus line here, something only really popular songs make you remember. You'll just have to hear it to understand what I mean. Its a radio hit!

On the final teaser track, we have "There He Go Again," a hardcore and on-guard track. This song is dedicated to all the haters out there, courtesy of Kidd Skilly.

It was refreshing to get this CD into my player and enjoy it right after the holidays. If this is a sign of what's to come in 2005, then everyone should take note, we have an exciting year ahead of us!!! Get ready for Kidd Skilly in 2005 - I can't wait to hear "1-King" now, I wonder what the rest of the tracks will sound like.
