Now listen to me, in a recent review I did, I asked when America was gonna start producing original and brilliant Desi music. Well, lo and behold, that day came sooner than I thought! Kidd Skilly, straight out of Detroit, Michigan is among the few raw and untamed South Asian talents to shine above the dim lit, unoriginal and boring talents we are accustomed to here. He's in good company with others such as Karmacy, Bohemia, and the upcoming Chalis Chor, who are all taking steps to bring the level of quality original music from South Asian artists in North America to a premium level.
Kidd Skilly, get familiar with this name because you're gonna be hearing more of it in 2004. The name of the album is "Mye.Slang" - What's the period for, I wonder. Anyway, with a total of 11 tracks, its got tight lyrics, crisp sound, great production, and one talented individual on the mic.
This CD will not only entertain you, but it will also make you think. You will think about society and the people in it after listening to Skilly's verbage. There is a strong message behind all that good music, and it isn't about guns or drugs, its about having fun, and its about positivity. With tracks like "I Got Questions," "Muzik," and "Her Story," the head boppin' beats mixed with powerful lyrics, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I really dig Kidd Skilly's rapping style and voice, its just all there. The fact that I cannot pick out a single negative thing about him or this album should speak for itself. Maybe I'm just excited and therefore blinded by the fact that this is an original masterpiece, but if thats the case, so what. The work that went into this and the outcome of it warrants so much more than just this album review.
Get this album, I promise you that you will not be disappointed, but proud to be a North American Desi!
