Let the Music Play

Some remixes make you "nod your head," some make you "shake your ass" and some simply make "you wanna jump jump." Sandeep Kumar's sophomore release "Let the Music Play" makes you want to do all this, and more.

The album's format is familiar to his debut release last year, a continuous remix of the latest and greatest offerings of hindi and bhangra tracks. The fifty tracks found on "Let the Music Play" are remixed so well and precisely, you'd swear he'd been remixing for decades. This is certainly not the case, Sandeep is only twenty. Beginners luck? Highly unlikely. He raised the bar with "This is Los Angeles," and now he just outdid himself.

He makes it clear from the first track that the comparisons to the likes of Jay Dabhi in making similarities to the calibre of remixing when he first started out are not without merit. Jay himself admits to spinning Sandeep's remixes at clubs. Need I say more?

Sandeep makes it clear that he cares about his music. Standout tracks include "Na Tum Jaano Na Hum," "Saajan Ghar Jana Hai," and the rare rendition of Alligator's "Temple of India." He tears it up with his "disco-ish" version of K3G's "You Are My Soniya." Finally, he does justice to the lifted sample used in Truth Hurt's smashhit "Addictive" on Punjabi MC's "Good Morning."

The only piece of advice I'd suggest would be to vary his future releases. By that I mean, it would be nice to have an album with individual remixes that stand alone. I'd hate for him to be pidgeon-holed as the "mega mixer." Not that this would be a bad thing, considering "Let the Music Play" will definitely fulfill your appetite for knock out remixes and beyond.
