On Wednesday September 13th Kimveer Gill - an introverted 25 year-old - went on a shooting rampage at Dawson's College in Montreal, Quebec, Canada using a semi-automatic weapon. A student at the college stated, "He had a laser gun or something, a big rifle, and he just started shooting at people."

Gill was a self-proclaimed loner. A neighbor confirmed Kimveer never had any visitors and habitually wore black garbs. Immersed in the world of Goth, Gill blogged frequently online at vampirefreaks.com, "Anger and hatred simmers within me... Life is a videogame and you've gotta die sometimes." He used Fatality666 as his online username and his comments surrounded topics of murder and death.

Michelle Belanger - an author of numerous Goth-related books - addressed the incident with a letter, "...we (Goths) romance death in poetry, art, and song only in the tradition of Romantic poets." Gill posted over 50 photographs of himself posing with a black rifle and wrote, "His name is Trench. You will come to know him as the Angel of Death."

19 people were injured. Anastasia DeSouza died at eighteen. Kimveer Gill shot himself in the head. Gill's parents identified him and his vehicle. They were horrified. Gill had no previous police record.

The actions of Kimveer Gill have instigated discussions about the effects of online communities. Gill was very much isolated in life, but in his online forum he found like-minded individuals; individuals who are rumored to have given him positive feedback on his dark comments. We can only speculate on whether these killings were an attempt for Gill to seek online users' approval or whether his actions were that of a psychopath.

Belanger posted an online plea, "before you judge the rest of us by association, find the seat of tolerance in your hearts and learn more about the groups that Kimveer Gill himself so grievously misunderstood."
