Tushar Unadkat's Home Away From Homeland
Rogers Masala! Mehndi! Masti! The largest multi-disciplinary South Asian Arts festival outside of South Asia presents HOME AWAY FROM HOMELAND An award winning photojournalistic work by TUSHAR UNADKAT (www.tusharunadkat.com).

Tushar Unadkat's Home Away From Homeland

The theme of this exhibition is concerned with the experience of various generations of Indians living abroad who try to retain aspects of the life they remember before they left India. After one or two generations Indians seem to find themselves in a time warp that relates to an India that no longer exists, except in the memory of their grandparents. In some ways their way of living Indian culture is more traditional than is possible in contemporary India. Thus, through the practice of photography, a body of work is created on the theme of 'Home Away from Homeland.'

Internationally celebrated Art Director, Tushar Unadkat, Creative Director of MUKTA Advertising, Canada, holds a Master of Design from the University of Dundee, Scotland and Honors in Photography from University of Wolverhampton, England.

In past decade, Unadkat executed art direction in the film, fashion, advertising and events industry at USA, England, Scotland, France, Germany, Netherlands, India and Canada.

His photographic research on Indian Diaspora "An Indian Abroad" (Home away from homeland), got nominated for the 1999 BBC Asia Awards and won a citation from the New York City Council Member in 2002.

Tushar's artistic work has received admiration from many international acclaimed dignitaries including former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Inder Kumar Gujaral, former Minister of Culture Shri Girish Karnad, Shri Saed Jaffery, Shri Sunil Jannah and Dr. Werner Mensky amongst others.

In 2005, Tushar got nominated for the Trailblazer Award at the ReelWorld Film Festival, Toronto where he programmed a three-day event with internationally renowned actor, the former Indian MP Ms. Shabana Azmi.

Tushar's largest contribution to the artistic community is Nouveau IDEA: New Indian Dimension in Entertainment and Arts. He is the Founder and Moderator of the non-profit eGroup that disseminates information, produces and promote Indian Arts with 3000+ members and 30,000+ readers.

Most recently, Tushar Unadkat won the nomination for the 2006 New Pioneers Award by Skills for Change for his commendable contribution as an immigrant to the Canadian community.

Today, serving on several advisory boards, Unadkat successfully executes direction of cinema and media arts management in Canada and abroad.
