March 18, 2005, NEW YORK - With the globe in mind, DesiClub.com along with Intense Management announced today a vision for a new future with the unveiling of their inaugural event, The DesiClub.com South Asian Media Awards. Taking place on Saturday June 4th 2005 at the Miller Theater in New York City, the awards look to honor leaders in the South Asian Society within a variety of categories.

The DesiClub.com South Asian Media Awards have been developed to recognize those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the South Asian community through their talent and hard work. For years, South Asians have been fighting the uphill battle to achieve acceptance and gain respect of their American counterparts. The desire to be known for more than working at 7-11s or pumping gas, has led to a forward movement that cannot be ignored and is now unstoppable. In the last 10 years South Asians have made notable progress in a plethora of areas that were previously underrepresented by South Asians. The DesiClub.com South Asian Media Awards were created to recognize individuals who continuously push the envelope past preconceived notions the South Asian community has of its available opportunities. As these individuals reach their goals by surpassing all limitations, the impact of their work is felt on the entire South Asian population.

"A need to recognize has arisen, and the DesiClub.com South Asian Media Awards proudly accepts the challenge ahead. We are at a turning point in history where interest in the South Asian Culture is at an all time high with the mainstream media and public. We realize it will be a difficult task to honor all those in our community that are deserving of receiving this award. But this is a good start and luckily for us, there is no other organization that has the power and market position to conduct such an undertaking. For these Awards, the term media is defined in its broadest sense, and so in the same respect, the award categories will encompass a variety of fields. A nomination committee, comprised of reputable individuals and organizations that are recognized in their respective areas of expertise, has been selected to nominate candidates in each of the categories. A list of candidates for each category will be compiled; after which it will be subject to online voting by the general public. The winners will then be announced at the Award ceremony on June 4th. Online voting is scheduled to begin in late April at DesiClub.com/Awards.
