Some know her simply as "Aashi," while others know her as the diva, Aashna; but whatever you call her, you can't deny her vivacious personality and talent both on and off screen. This woman has done everything from her own production work to reporting on the hottest celebrities, as well as working on her own music. Aashna's TV reign continues in the next few months as she will be hosting "Vacation Home Search" on the Travel Channel. She'll also be hosting the upcoming King Fisher Bollywood Fashion Awards, which will be broadcast worldwide. If you guys out there reading this want to hook up with this Gujarati chic, then get in line! In this interview she reveals her true love (gasp)! Read on and reward yourself with Aashna's creative soul.
Peta Cooper: So you're hosting the Bollywood Fashion Awards on April 30th, do you think the designers have actually come up with a "waterproof" Sari for those "dancing in the rain" movie scenes?
Aashna Patel: NO WAY! Wearing a wet sari is sexy. Don't you agree? I'm looking forward to meeting the Indian fashion designers and seeing what's hot for 2004.
PC: So I heard that not only are you going to be hosting, but singing too? Which new songs are you going to sing and what are they about?
AP: Come on girlie! Some things have to be a surprise. You'll have to watch The Bollywood Fashion Awards to find out.
PC: In Bollywood movies, the actors lip sync talented singers' songs, would you like to have your voice used in this manner?
AP: I would be honored. I love Hindi songs. I just don't know anyone in the Indian music world yet, maybe someday. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
PC: Just close your eyes, which actress can you picture using your voice?
AP: I know you said actress but the first person I pictured was Shahrukh Khan... what a crazy thought!
PC: I never said you sounded like a guy Aashna, but whatever floats your boat. ;) On your new, and might I add improved site, you've got everything on it! Some hot pictures of yourself, a demo reel and lots of fun stuff, but where's Bollywood?! Don't you have any "Bollywood" dreams to be a heroine? (wink)
AP: I actually included that in my bio. I am interested in breaking into Bollywood. It's brand new for me so I'm starting from scratch by making contacts. Anyone want a Guju Girl for their next flick?
PC: Guju girls are hot in Bollywood right now, aren't they? Anywho, now people can catch you on "Travel Ala Mode" when they fly America West, do the segments repeat?
AP: The show changes every month. If you fly on America West in May, you'll see San Diego and its surrounding areas. I'll show you The Doubletree Golf Resort, Coronado Island, Temecula, Pechanga Resort and Casino, The Mission and of course The Gas-lamp District. The June show will include the top resorts in Arizona. My friends think I'm lucky to go to all these great places but let me tell you that each day I work about 16 hours and I don't get pampered the way it looks on camera.
"...I'm so thankful you didn't ask me this question on camera. I wouldn't be able to hide the expression."
PC: Well, I don't think anyone feels sorry for you Aashna, I'm guessing anyone would switch places with you. Anyway, would you slap a little "ala mode" in my face?
AP: Honey, I don't want to get sued so I'm not going to slap anything on your pretty face.
PC: I'm seeing a pattern here with the travelling Aashna, you're also hosting "Vacation Home Search," what's that about and where can people tune in to see it?
AP: I was asked what I wanted to do this year and I said travel. Vacation Home Search is a show following the process of buying a vacation home. It will start airing on the Travel Channel in a few months. I'm going to shoot all the shows first. I'll keep you posted.
PC: Are YOU in need of a vacation yourself? Where would you like to go?
AP: I really need one right now. I would love to travel through Italy. Hopefully, it'll happen this year.
PC: Your talents soar from all entertainment aspects: from singing, acting, journalism, which is your favorite and why?
AP: Singing is my favorite. I enjoy the whole process from sitting in my pad or on the beach writing songs, to arranging them with my producers to recording them to performing them. It really allows me to be creative. I'm not playing a reporter or a host or a character... I'm just being me.
PC: Have you ever been tempted to ask an actor out on a date after you interviewed him?
AP: I've never been asked this question before Peta - I'm impressed. I'm so thankful you didn't ask me this question on camera. I wouldn't be able to hide the expression on my face. I've been tempted a few times but I would never do that. I don't think that's professional. A few have asked me out and I brought my friends with me. I sound like a nerd but I don't like to put myself in any uncomfortable situations and I'm also much more attracted to men outside the biz.
PC: I impressed you huh, let's see how you like this one. What's the stupidest pick up line a guy has used on you?
AP: Do you have a quarter? I just wanted to call my mom and let her know I'm in Heaven. They really have to update that line. It costs more than a quarter to make a call these days. I offered the guy my cell phone!
PC: haha, Who's your favorite "gori" in the whole wide world? (Smiles)
AP: In some ways girlie, you are more Indian than I am. I don't have a favorite gori. All right, stop pouting Peta... you win. (Smiles)
