Yesteryear actress Padma Khanna Sidana and her film-director husband Jagdish Sidana's Iselin, New Jersey; based cultural center Indianica Academy will be representing Indian culture and dance at the upcoming London Olympics.
Extremely popular among the South Asian population in New Jersey, August 2012 marks Indianica's debut on an international stage. This is the first time that a US based organization will be performing a traditional Indian dance at the PAE (Performance and Arts Educators) 2012 London Invitational during the Olympics.
Talking about the performers, Indianica Academy revealed that 24 local artists from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania would be part of the performing troupe. As either enrolled students or alumni, each performer bears Indianica Academy's unique brand and obsession with perfection.
Performance venues in London will include prominent places such as the Olympic borough of Tower Hamlets, within walking distance of the Olympic equestrian competitions at Greenwich. In addition, Indianica Academy will appear on the stages at the Performing Arts Educators, All UK Performing Arts Festival at Warwick Castle, the historic seat of the English house of the White Roses.
Indianica will perform three different dance pieces, which will highlight distinct Indian styles from classical dance forms such as Kathak to folk dance such as Bhangra to Bollywood fusion. Ranging from the Gayatri Mantra to a dance ballad of an episode of the Krishna Leela. Participants in the London 2012 Invitational will experience the opportunities and spirit of the great city of London during that exciting time and will help represent Indo-American performing arts, known throughout the world for its quality and professionalism.
Indianica is an arts, culture and knowledge institution based in Iselin, New Jersey. For the last 16 years Indianica Academy has brought to the South Asian diaspora multicultural fine arts programs, providing rigorous training in Indian classical dance, cultural art forms, Indian music both vocal and instrumental, stage, and screen acting lessons.
At the recent Cultural Pioneers Dinner held by Indianica Academy and hosted by TV Asia on July 20, students thanked founder and teacher Padma Khanna Sidana, Kathak exponent, former Hindi film actress and director.
Additionally, Indianica Academy also organizes an annual gala performance endearingly titled Chamakte Sitaaray (Shining Stars) every June bringing to stage performers of all ages, backgrounds, talents and expertise.
