Kajol's Sis Tanisha is #1 in Throwing Tantrums!
For an actress who has been trying to make her career get off to a flying start for the last four years, what better than a debut with Rajshri Productions could have happened? Yes, when Rajshri signed Kajol's sister Tanisha as the leading lady in their new romantic film Uuf Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai...! everyone felt that her long worth had finally paid off well. But unfortunately Tanisha couldn't resist but show her real self on the sets of the film. She surpassed even Kareena Kapoor in throwing tantrums!
It is believed that Tanisha was never on terms with anyone in the unit. Right from the producer, director, co-actors, technicians and even the spot boys; Tanisha had arguments with everyone over petty issues. The executive producer Rajat Barjatya was tolerant of her tantrums but the limit was crossed when the crew was in Ooty for a two-months long schedule. In Ooty, Tanisha abused the unit members and even refused to shoot in presence of Rajat Barjatya, who was the only one to argue with her on her unjust demands. Outraged at her behaviour the Barjatya family instructed director Manoj Bhatia to ask her to pack her bags and fly back to Mumbai where Tanuja, Kajol and Tanisha were formally called at Rajshri office and were informed of the decision to replace Tanisha with Pooja Kanwal, daughter of TV actress Anita Kanwal.
Insiders claim that Tanisha was stunned when she heard the decision since she never anticipated this drastic move, especially when 40 per cent of the movie was already shot. Even though Rajshri suffered a loss of almost Rs. 5 Crores, the move has certainly sent a clear message to performers that unprofessional behaviour wouldn't be tolerated at any cost! Indeed a brave decision by the Barjatyas.
Shekhar Kapur Announces the Futuristic Paani
His next film is called Paani and Shekhar Kapur is busy putting together the cast and crew for the film. The film, according to an official statement by Kapur, is futuristic and is set in India of 2060. "Sixty years from now water is going to be a currency and people will part with money since the most essential element of life - water - would be scarce. My film is set in this environment and hence I've named it Paani," says Kapur who is yet undecided whether the film would be made in English or Hindi or will it be bi-lingual.
At present Kapur is on the look out for an Indian star cast for the film. He has already roped in composer A R Rahman for the project and has also signed Andrew Niccole (of The Truman Show fame) to script his film. The shooting of the film is expected to be completed in 2003 and the film should release by early 2004.
Rekha is the Bhoot in Ramu's Horror Flick
For the last couple of months the film world has been abuzz with rumors about Ram Gopal Verma's horror flick Bhoot. Everyone was curious to find out whom Ramu would cast in the title role of the film. There was news that a leading contemporary actress was being considered whereas after the hype around Makdee started even Shabana Azmi was being considered! However Ramu has cleared all speculations about his film by announcing that the gorgeous lady Rekha would play the title role. The film also stars Urmila Matondkar, Ajay Devgan, Victor Banerjee and Seema Biswas.
There is another very interesting side to Rekha, that of the supernatural. Yes, Rekha, it is believed was very closely involved Ipsita Chakravarthy who authored the book Beloved Witch. Ipsita, people believe, has been working very hard to prove the theory that witches do exist and has conducted several experiments to prove the point. Rekha gave up her association with Ipsita after her fascination for supernatural elements was getting over her head. But with the actress' acceptance of Ramu's Bhoot will all those experiments come of use? Maybe yes!
Sushmita Sen Plays Tabu in Astitva's English Version
Director Mahesh Manjrekar is all set to make an English version of his highly acclaimed film Astitva, which starred Tabu and Sachin Khedekar. To be called It Rained That Night, the film will be shot at New Jersey in one schedule and will star Sushmita Sen in the lead role. The story of the film has also been modified a bit to suit the international audience. The English version will be a tale of a young married couple that has shifted base to NJ from India. While the husband gets absorbed in his work and career, the wife stays at home since the husband doesn't want her to work. The story continues thereafter ditto as Astitva. While Sushmita's name has been officially declared, it is yet a suspense who would play the husband to her. The film is expected to roll in February 2003. for your information, Madhuri Dixit had refused the role earlier due to her pregnancy!
