Himesh Reshammiya makes his presence felt again with Namastey London. He pairs up with lyricist Javed Akhtar this time though, instead of his good old buddy Sameer. Akshay Kumar tries to woo the NRI audience by playing a Funjabi in a story that takes you from Ludhiana to London. There are 7 original tracks, and 11 remixes! Chakna Chakna is a regular Bhangra pop song and will be identified with many Indians as well in UK. The mix of sufi, bhangra and pop elements is cool. Reshammiya makes the song come alive. After the original version, we have a remix version where the song adds more bhangra to it making it a sure shot winner. Viraaniya, a sad song with yearning has been sung by Reshammiya again and it has a feel of Tanhaiyyan done by the singer earlier. The remix of Viraaniya has a more vibrant version and is mellow on in the Mehfil Mix version which has none other than Javed Akhtar reciting his own poetry as a prelude.
Himesh gives a whopper in Main Jahaan Rahoon, which has the feel of a Rahat Fateh Ali Khan kind of voice. The music is refined and very unlike Himmesh. It's charming. The remix of the same retains the essence of this soft number and makes way for the Mehfil Mix too. This one has lesser musical arrangements so it surprisingly sounds better. Yehi Hota Pyaar is another good number with one not cringing every time Himesh sings. This ghazal with Sunidhi Chauhan is stunning and nothing you expect from Himesh. Rafta Rafta rendered by a hot band on the UK-Bhangra circuits called RDB, is a club number with a reasonable pace though it's remix is faster.
Annan Faanan is a sweet romantic song, with Jayesh Gandhi and Akriti Kakkar singing it well. This nice ballad has cool Remix and Mehfil Mix versions. Dilrooba is the typical Reshammiya's style of music which we are used to. Sung by Zubeen Garg & Alisha Chinai, it is time-pass and has a peppy remix version.
Namastey London has scope only if one doesn't focus on Chakna Chakna. The remix and Mehfil versions too don't make you cringe, so check it out.
