Sushmita Sen, fitting in her role in Filhaal may seem complex and mysterious sometimes, but thats only because of the lack of attention given to her compared to her counterparts. Trust us when we say that she deserves a million times more exposure and attention than what she currently gets. And for good reason, read on and see why!
What is your latest film Filhaal all about?
Filhaal is a journey of life. It's about relationships of four different
individuals mainly Tabu, Sanjay Suri, Palash Sen and me and their
commitments to each other as friend, lover and spouse. It's about how when
put into difficult situations you still live up to your commitment as a
friend. You could say that Filhaal defines friendship. It is also about love
and marriage in modern times.
What do you think about your character in the film - Sia? Do you identify
with her?
Yes, I completely identify with my my character, Sia. Unlike the characters
that I have played till now they didn't have Sushmita in them at all, on the
other hand Sia is completly Sushmita. There are many scenes in the film that
Meghna has shot just spontaneously. I haven't rehearsed the scenes at all. I
have used facial expressions, hand gestures and other mannerisms just the
way I do in real life. There were times while shooting when lights and
reflectors weren't used at all. I was speaking dialogues just the way I
spoke to people on an everyday basis. The only difference was that the camera
was catching it in living colour.
When Meghna approached you for Filhaal, what made you agree to such an
inconventional theme?
I agreed because of the strong storyline and characterization - it also
helped thatc when Mehgna gave me the script she specifically told me that
there would be no changes made in it at all. I read it and I told her that
the script and specially my role really intrigued me as an actress. And
believe me the film moves just the way it is written in the script. Not a
scene or dialogue is out of place. And I'm really glad I did the film. the
media has projected me as some glamour doll in Biwi Number One and other
such films, but Meghna has given me an absolutely new dimension with
Filhaal.
