Diana Hayden was Miss World in 1997 and spent years as a model. Recently she has turned to acting placing her in Bollywood films such as Tehzeeb and Ab Bas! Off the big screen, Diana gives lectures on grooming and beauty and works for a number of causes including AIDS awareness. While many may see this as a balance, Diana really is not working too regularly on her acting career, but she reveals this is a conscience decision she has made.
Diana begins by saying, "Basically I'm a very shy person. You won't find me at too many parties or socializing just because I have to. I'd rather do something more meaningful. I'm very choosy about my film and modeling assignments and I'm happy in my own space. I spend time travelling, working, giving lectures and with my family." Diana also comments that she spent two and a half years focusing on her book A Beautiful Truth.
Diana explains, "This book became the be all and end all of my life for those two and a half years. I would eat, drink, sleep and dream of it and was totally cut-off from the rest of the world. In fact I missed out on a few good film offers but I have no regrets about it. My book is all that a girl or a woman can want and must have, from the age of 16 to 60."
Not straying from any topic, Diana reveals her true thoughts on Bollywood. "I wanted to explore the world, the world of opportunities that lay before me. Although I did get some good offers of films, I didn't find too many of them attractive enough and the few films that I did act in are the types I'd rather not talk about," She said. Diana goes on, "I'm not cut out to be atypical Hindi film heroine. I love watching all the dancing around the trees and singing in our films, but I personally can't do it. I'm not just made out for it. I know my drawbacks and I know what the audience wants. So, if I'm not able to pull off my role convincingly, why should I do it? I'd rather do something, which I'm good at. So I do films which I feel will suit my personality and my sensibility, but I do make an exception for my friends. If they have an interesting project and I like the story, I would be most willing to act in it. In fact I'm currently shooting for a very exciting horror film titled The Living Doll."
Diana seems to have films, books, appearances, and passion all in the right places for herself. It's good to see a woman doing things on her terms and telling it as it is. Would you like to see more of Diana in Bollywood?
