The NYCIFF will be hosting the world premiere of the much talked about Pakistani film Seedlings (Lamha). The film is produced by Bodhicitta Works production in association with Ice Animations. Even before its official release the film has already received several nominations; which include Best Feature Film, Best Actress in a leading role for Aamina Sheikh, Best Actor in a leading role Gohar Rasheed, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.
Produced by Meher Jaffri, written by Summer Nicks and directed by debutant Mansoor Mujahid the film premiers at the festival on August 10, and will be screened again on August 14, which is also Pakistan Day. The film is intended to release theatrically in Pakistan later this year.
Talking about the film, Robert Rizzo, festival director of NYCIFF says, "Mansoor Mujahid treats this sensitive subject in the most subtle way, and the performance of Aamina Sheikh as a devastated mother makes the film extraordinarily moving."
The film has been titled as Seedlings for its international release but it is being publicized as Lamha in Urdu and revolves around the lives of three individuals who are bound together by a devastating accident, in an intricately woven story of loss, forgiveness and redemption. The characters face the terrifying prospect of piecing together the semblance of normal life.
"From conception to implementation Seedlings has only been possible because of the unwavering support and dedication of our entire team, the writers, directors, cast and crew. For its world premiere to be held at the NYCIFF is humbling and gratifying" says producer Meher Jaffri.
Jaffri along with Summer Nicks and Craig Peter Jones founded Bodhicitta Works, a film and video production company. The company is also producing the much-talked about and highly anticipated sci-fi film Kolachi.
The film's soundtrack is unique and features music by 21-year-old guitar prodigy and 2012 TED Global Fellow, Usman Riaz, a percussive guitar genius. Pakistani Riaz learnt this particular style of music by watching his favorite musicians on YouTube. At the TEDGlobal 2012, Riaz got the opportunity of performing with Preston Reed, the master of percussive guitar. Riaz also stars in a short musical film Ruckus, which premiered in Karachi and released his debut album in June, 2012.
