Two-time National Award winning actress, Tabu has off late kept a very low profile. Recently, she also turned down a supporting role in a film, which stars Madhuri Dixit in the lead. However, latest buzz is that Tabu has agreed to star in critically acclaimed director Tigmanshu Dhulia's next movie titled Revolver Rani.
The film will see Tabu, 40, essay the role of an outlaw in a tale of revenge and redemption set in the interiors of Madhya Pradesh. Notably, Dhulia also shot his last release, the crossover hit, Paan Singh Tomar, in the same region.
Dhulia reportedly plans to finalize the rest of the cast and crew of Revolver Rani within the next month or so, and the film is set to go on floors by the end of this year. Sources close to the film's unit reveal that Revolver Rani will only be produced by Dhulia and will be directed by Sai Kabir, who has made his mark as a writer in Bollywood.
Kabir, is known for writing hard-hitting dialogues in Rahul Dholakia's Sanjay Dutt starrer Lamhaa and penned the screenplay for Aziz Mirza's Kismat Konnection, starring Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan.
According to our sources, Tabu, off late has become very selective of the roles that she is doing and that is part of the reason why the otherwise talented actress has had a tough time finding work in Bollywood. "Tabu spends most of her time in Hyderabad, where she has a house and is always traveling between Hyderabad and Mumbai that is also part of the reason why we do not see her much in Hindi movies."
Tabu's last Bollywood release was Toh Baat Pakki in 2010. Since then, she has only been seen in a cameo in Santosh Sivan's Malayalam film, Urumi. She recently signed Shaitan, director Bejoy Nambiar's next film, David, a multi-starrer where she will share screen space with a huge star cast that includes southern superstar Vikram, Lara Dutta, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Isha Sharvani, Monica Dogra, Vinay Virmani and Shweta Pandit. Incidentally, David, like Revolver Rani, also has an action role in store for Tabu.
Right now, Tabu, whom western audiences remember for her role in The Namesake, is waiting for the release of Oscar winner Ang Lee's much-hyped Hollywood film, Life Of Pi, based on Yann Martel's Booker Prize-winning novel.
Apart from David, she just has one more Bollywood film in hand - Ravi Chopra's much-delayed Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai opposite Govinda, reportedly, a remake of My Cousin Vinny.
