Anupam Kher headed to Hollywood for his close-up and now we are one step closer to getting a look! Anupam stars in Silver Linings Playbook and the first trailer is now out. Anupam is seen in the company of Robert DeNiro and Bradley Cooper.
The film has been done by David O. Russell and is based on a novel by Mathew Quick. Quick's camp describes the book as, "An enchanting first novel about love, madness, and Kenny G." The synopsis on Quick's website mirrors the film's trailer leading us to believe that the silver screen adaptation may be close to the original story.
Pat Peoples is a disturbed man who spends time in a facility, which is when he formulates a theory about silver linings: he believes his life is a movie produced by God. Pat feels his happy ending is with estranged wife Nikki whom no one mentions back home.
When Pat meets Tiffany who is described as "the tragically widowed, physically fit, and clinically depressed, who offers to act as a liaison between him (Pat) and his wife." The condition Tiffany has is that Pat takes part in a dance competition. Bradley Cooper plays Pat and we see that Pat takes on the dance challenge and has a renewed love for life.
Anupam Kher gets involved as the therapist. In an interview, Kher says, "It is a very interesting role in terms of importance in the film. Usually when you do a Hollywood film, it involves one scene or you are typecast." In the same conversation, Kher describes the differences between Bollywood and Hollywood; he reveals, "In India, film sets are like a family atmosphere. Over there, it is very cut-throat because anyone could be fired from the set at any moment so everyone works with this fear of making mistakes."
Clearly, Anupam Kher survived as he will be seen in Silver Lining Playbooks, the film hits screens this November.
