With her first hit film Ishq Vishk, Amrita Rao is the new cutie pie in the film industry. This 20 year old is very confident and talkative and she knows she has it all to get to the top. Curly hair, simple jeans, a snazzy top is all Amrita needs to look cool.
Rajesh Shah: You have been getting awards for Ishq Vishk. How do you feel?
Amrita Rao: Wonderful. I feel on top of the world. Big makers and stars have all seen my film and I am so proud of it. I was too thrilled when the film turned out to be a hit but now I am ecstatic. Ishq Vishq was the right platform for me and being a newcomer I think it has given me the career boost I needed. I was very fortunate to be cast in it.
RS: But Ishq Vishq wasn't your first film.
AR: Yes, I was two films old by the time this film released, but Ishq Vishk was infact supposed to be my debut and it will always be special to me for that reason. I have no regrets that Ab Ke Baras was my first film as I have learnt a lot from the film. I wasn't reduced to a song and dance routine or overshadowed. Then Raj Kumar Santoshi's Legend of Bhagat Singh happened which was a tremendous experience. People thought I was good at emotional scenes and a good dancer.
RS: What was your experience working with Shahrukh in Main Hoon Na?
AR: He is too good. He shot with us before and after his surgery yet he never complained and that's one lesson I have learnt from him. His energy level is contagious and his hard work too. I really admire his energy, his focus and I learnt a lot from him.
RS: How did you land a role in that film?
AR: I was lucky to get Main Hoon Na as I was too raw when I met Farah Khan, who is the director. She had seen me in the Bru ad and called me. The first thing she asked me was if I could dance. I was really nervous because she's a choreographer and I didn't know what kind of dance she wanted. I auditioned and she liked me and I met Shahrukh who simply told Farah to go ahead. People have been really nice to me and I hope my career is more fruitful in the future.
RS: Which other films are in the works for you?
AR: I have Vinod Doshi's Deewar, which really has a mind blowing cast and a fantastic story line. I play a Pakistani girl in the film opposite Akshaye Khanna. I bring relief to the tense moments in the film. Akshaye's a cool actor to work with and he is a very good actor. Whatever he does, he does it with intensity. Then, I also have Masti with Vivek Oberoi. I have been very lucky to get roles which have been contrastingly different right from Legend to Ishq Vishk to Deewar to Main Hoon Na.
