On a high after her latest hit, Karan Johar's "Kal Ho Naa Ho," Preity Zinta is in relax mode. With better films and bigger banners Preity is sitting pretty on top of the Bollywood box office. She intends to make most of her recent position and enjoy success to the max. She's had four releases: Hero, Koi Mil Gaya, Armaan and Kal Ho Naa Ho two of which have been hits. So what else does she need? Let's ask her!
Rajesh Shah: You must be thrilled to have two huge hits in a year, no?
Preity Zinta: Yeah. It feels great when your hard work is rewarded. I have tried to give as varied performances as possible. I learned a lot about people in particular, with making both these films. I learned about handling your pain and being brave about it. I really hurt myself when I fell and hurt my stomach. There was a huge bruise, swelling and it was painful. I was on all sorts of painkillers and balm. Being on the set of these films and being around the people I was around, really made it easier to get through that.
RS: Now you are called the No 1. How does that feel?
PZ: Well I don't take it too seriously. These numbers keep changing and I don't let them get to my head. I am glad people have liked me in films like Kal Ho Naa Ho and Koi Mil Gaya, plus the other films I did this year but I want to do more and much better work. I am happy with whatever I have achieved as it is due to my hard work. I have seen lots of ups and downs in this industry. I think I always have to work hard.
RS: Getting in the Chopra camp is an added bonus.
PZ: Well yeah. It is really wonderful to be part of a Yash Chopra production. He is such a wonderful person and brilliant actor. I have always wanted to be in one of his films and have loved his films. I am proud and happy to be cast in his film. I'm really looking forward to it.
RS: Tell us about the other films you are working on presently?
PZ: I have Atul Agnihotri's directorial debut with Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla. My role isn't the main lead but a cameo, which has turned out quite nice. It has an interesting twist. Then my next release will be Lakshya directed by Farhan Akhtar with Hrithik and Amitabh Bachchan. Ofcourse, I have just mentioned Yash Chopra's film wherein my co-stars are Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherji.
RS: Does success mean a lot to you?
PZ: Actually for me it is a reward for all the hard work I do. It feels nice to be appreciated and applauded for your work. Success means confidence too, to do better work. Then when someone comes and says I liked you in this and that it is really a soothing thought for a person who goes through a lot of turmoil and even pain at times.
