The whole episode of Twilight mania started with the release of the first book of the Twilight series named Twilight about 5 years ago. The book written by Stephenie Meyer hit the market in 2005 and, ever since then, has been in the minds of readers and non-readers alike.
With Twilight mania, what I mean is people going on and on about the book and, since the adaptation of the series into movies, going on and on about the movies. Okay, this is going to sound hypocritical coming from me, as even I am one of those people, who simply love the book and its portrayal or adaptation into movies.
But, seriously, I cannot understand the whole hype around it. There are various sites and blogs dedicated to the Twilight books and movies. Innumerous fan clubs too! Plus, in recent times, twilight merchandise has been available – stuff like T-shirts, posters, bags, key chains, necklaces and what not! There are sites, which offer quotes from the Twilight books and movies, which post various quizzes, contests and polls and also have photo galleries. Then, there are sites dedicated only to Twilight’s merchandise like buytwilightstuff.com.
Then, even though the fourth book is out, which clearly mentions Bella getting married to Edward and Jacob getting Imprinted with Renesmee, there are people still divided into two teams – team Edward and team Jacob. As the name suggests, the two teams support their character respectively and each of the two teams thinks that its character is best suited with Bella.
I can’t fathom this whole obsession! There are people I know who don’t like reading, but have still read Twilight books after watching the movies and are absolutely crazy about it. People, who didn’t supply a second glance to Robert Pattinson in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, now claim to be his biggest fan.
I guess the only good, which came out of it is that people like Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and, no doubt, Stephenie Meyer have become household names. Even if someone doesn’t like the movies or books, they do end up adding fuel to the hype by talking about it even if it is against it. Much like this blog, I can say.
Maybe this whole fixation roots from something, which is everyone’s fantasy. About living a life on the edge – like Bella does and having a vampire for a boyfriend and a werewolf for best friend! The idea of it definitely sounds pleasing to me… no wonder girls are crazy about it!
The Twilight Mania, I suppose, would come to an end with the release of the movie on the last book, Breaking Dawn. Or maybe, the mania will end when people get something else to obsess with. Just look at the way Potter Mania has come down since people got fixated with Twilight!
