Some have called it the 'Indian Oscar'. Glittering, Glamorous, Grand - India's ultimate Film Award. The final recognition for years of workmanship worked for and put on celluloid. The recognition for talent well spent. The reward for being 'the best' in their respective fields - acting, directing, music.

While Preity Zinta and Aishwariya Rai had both been nominated for the Best Actress Category for Kya Kehna and Hamara Dil Aap ke Paas Hai respectively, it was Karisma Kapoor who bagged the Best Actress Award for her performance in Fiza.

It was a momentous occasion for the Roshan family too. Hrithik won the Best Actor and Best Debutante Award for his role in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. Father Rakesh Roshan too received the Best Film Award for the home-production Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and Uncle Rajesh Roshan bagged an award in the music category for the same film. It's all in the family.

It was an eventful evening for the Bachchan family. The legendary Amitabh Bachchan received the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Yash Chopra's Mohabbatein, while his wife Jaya bagged the Best Supporting Actress Award for her electrifying performance in Fiza. They were accompanied by their son Abhishek, who had been nominated for the Best Male Newcomer Award for his role in Refugee.

Veteran singer Asha Bhonsle received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Madhuri Dixit-Nene for her dedication to the Indian film industry over five decades.

The charming and talented Feroz Khan - an actor-turned-director - too received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award from one of his leading ladies - Zeenat Aman.

Farah Khan received the Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for the mind-blowing dance number Ik pal ka jeena from Kaho Na Pyaar Hai - the dance sequence which catapulted Hrithik to instant fame!

SPOTTED - Akshay Kumar and wife Twinkle strolled in hand-in-hand. While the wife was clad in a lime backless number, hubby Akshay was elegantly clad in a white kurta pyjama. Also spotted was the exuberant Rani Mukherjee clad in a short black shimmering kurta. And who do you think was in the spotlight for his ensemble? None other than Puru Raajkumar whose shiny velvet bright magenta dress didn't let him go unnoticed.
